Apostille Services

Apostille or postill is also a French word which means certification. It is commonly used to refer to the legalization of a document for internation use under the terms of the 1961 Hague Conventions Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents.

Apostille is a seal applied by Department of State to authenicate a document in a foreign county in order to assess the authenticity of an official signature. The Apostille is recognized as form of international notay seal. An Apostille can be used if both countries (the country issuing the document and the country in which the document will be used) are part of The Hague Convention.

In 1961 many nations joined together to create a simplified method of "legalizing" documents for universal recognition. Members of the conference, referred to as the Hague Convention, adopted a document referred to as an Apostille that would be recognized by all member nations. Documents sent to member nations, completed with an Apostille at the state level, may be submitted directly to the member nation without further action.

Types of documents normally submitted for authentications are:

            Birth Certificates,Marriage Licenses,Death Bylaws,Certificates of Non-Marital Status,Corporate documents such as articles, mergers, amendments, etc.,Deeds of Assignment,Distributorship Agreements,Papers for adoption purposes,Powers of Attorney,School records such as diplomas, transcripts, letters relating to degrees, etc., References and Job Certification, Trademarks

Documents submitted to the Secretary of State for authentication must be currently certified by the appropriate public official or must be notarized by a California Notary Public.

Customers requiring authentication of any school records (e.g., college transcripts) must obtain a notarized copy of the record from the high school, university, etc., before submitting the documents for authentication.

Any document executed by County Health Officers and County Local Registrars can be authenticated only if the document is first certified by the county clerk/recorder.

Apostille Services are available and  will typically take 1 to 2 business days, for documents that have been notarize by Performance Mobile Notary or signature authenication has been previously completed.  Documents that have been notarize and have not had authenication done by county recorder may take longer , depending on which Southern California County the notary took his or her oath.
